The latest version of SB 267 moves the commission’s creation from the Michigan Economic Development Corporation to the Department of Labor and Economic Opportunity, and it clarifies the project’s focus on improving Michigan's economic relationships with Africa and the Caribbean. These changes are significant because they aim to enhance Michigan's competitiveness in global markets, especially in sectors like critical minerals and automotive technology. By shifting oversight to a different department, the bill seeks to bring in more targeted expertise and resources to better support international trade and job creation.
