The amended version of SB 175 allows the Early Childhood Education and Care Department and the New Mexico Finance Authority to enter into contracts aimed at creating or expanding child care programs for employees of businesses. This change expands the ways that loans from the Child Care Facility Revolving Loan Fund can be used, potentially increasing access to child care options and supporting working families in New Mexico. This is significant because it acknowledges the importance of child care in supporting the workforce and economic development.
