The recent amendments to Bill SB 78 clarify the qualifications and licensure requirements for certified registered nurse anesthetists (CRNAs) in New Mexico. The new language reinforces that applicants must complete an accredited nurse anesthesia program and obtain certification from a national board, ensuring a consistent standard of training for these essential healthcare professionals. This change matters because it aims to enhance the quality of care provided by CRNAs, who play a critical role in anesthesia and pain management, particularly in underserved areas.
