Plain-language change summary

The revised version of Bill HB 252 introduces a new program aimed at supporting kinship caregivers, which includes grandparents and other relatives raising children. The changes clarify the definitions of key terms like "fictive kin" and "next-of-kin," ensuring that individuals who play significant roles in a child's life are recognized. Additionally, the bill seeks to establish specific participation requirements and duties for those involved in the pilot program. This matters because it formalizes support for families stepping in to care for children, which can be critical for child welfare and stability.
