The recent amendment to HB 140 expands the definition of "hazardous waste" to include specific harmful substances known as per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS). It empowers the Environmental Improvement Board to create regulations regarding these substances, which can be dangerous to both public health and the environment. This change is significant because it strengthens the state's ability to manage hazardous materials effectively, potentially leading to improved safety and environmental protection.
