Plain-language change summary

The updated version of SB 142 now explicitly requires residential behavioral health facilities to make consistent efforts to contact a patient's family after admission. If a patient provides a family member's contact information, the facility must inform them right away and continue attempts until they are notified. This change is important because it ensures families are informed about their loved one's treatment, which can be crucial for support and recovery. Additionally, facilities that don't comply may face civil penalties, promoting accountability.
