Plain-language change summary

The recent amendments to SB 137 introduced several key changes aimed at improving accountability and transparency in public school governance. First, local school boards and charter school governing bodies will now be required to undergo more extensive training, with their attendance tracked as part of the School Support and Accountability System. Additionally, the ability of local school boards to extend or terminate a superintendent's contract will be limited following school board elections, ensuring a fairer process for new board members. Finally, meetings of local school boards will now be webcast and archived, making them more accessible to the public. These changes are important as they aim to enhance oversight, promote better governance practices, and keep the community informed.
