Plain-language change summary

The latest version of Senate Bill 8 has replaced the establishment of a "Center of Excellence for Geothermal Resources" with a broader focus that simply adds "geothermal resources" to the existing Center of Excellence at the New Mexico Institute of Mining and Technology. Additionally, the bill now creates a "Geothermal Resources Development Fund" instead of the previous "Geothermal Projects Development Fund" and eliminates a specific revolving loan fund for geothermal projects. These changes streamline the approach to promoting geothermal resources and funding while simplifying the overall structure of the bill, which could lead to more effective use of state resources in developing geothermal energy.
