This bill died with 2023 Regular Session. It reached “To Executive” and never advanced before the session ended, so it can no longer move — a new version would have to be reintroduced in the current session.
Vetoed by Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham (Democratic) on April 07, 2023.
This bill is no longer active — its legislative session has ended, so there is no live prognosis. It would have to be reintroduced in the current session to move again.

What changed in the latest version
24 added · 437 removedPlain-language change summary
In the latest version of SB 84, the legislative committee recommended that a previous version of the bill not pass, but they endorsed a substitute version of the bill instead. This substitution focuses on criminal justice reforms, specifically limiting incarceration for minor technical violations of probation and parole. This change is significant because it aims to reduce unnecessary imprisonment, potentially easing the burden on the legal system and helping individuals maintain their freedom for non-violent infractions.
