In the updated version of Senate Bill 418, a key addition is the inclusion of rules that the Oil Conservation Division can create to protect the environment and promote health, safety, as well as the involvement of environmental justice communities. This change emphasizes a more comprehensive approach to environmental protection and ensures that marginalized communities have a voice in matters that affect them. Additionally, the title of the "State Petroleum Engineer" has been changed to "State Oil Conservation Director," reflecting a shift in focus toward conservation and sustainable practices in the oil and gas sector. Overall, these amendments highlight a commitment to better environmental governance and community engagement.
