The updated version of Bill SB 280 establishes a new Cybersecurity Office, which will be responsible for managing and protecting the state's information systems. It also creates the position of a State Chief Information Security Officer to oversee cybersecurity efforts and a Cybersecurity Advisory Committee to provide guidance. These changes are important because they aim to enhance the state's defenses against cyber attacks, ultimately protecting sensitive information and critical assets from potential threats. Additionally, the bill includes provisions for exempting certain discussions from open meeting laws to allow for more secure handling of sensitive cybersecurity matters.
