The latest version of Bill HM 24 adds a clear focus on developing a comprehensive plan to save the lives of healthy, adoptable dogs and cats in New Mexico's animal shelters. This change emphasizes collaboration between county managers, animal shelters, welfare organizations, and community members to address the issue of euthanasia in shelters. The goal is to establish a no-kill community, which significantly impacts animal welfare in the state by ensuring more pets can find homes instead of being put down. This matters because it promotes a humane approach to animal care and helps protect the lives of thousands of animals.
