The recent changes to SB 150 establish the "Credit for Reinsurance Act," which sets guidelines for insurers obtaining reinsurance. Key definitions were added to clarify terms such as "accredited jurisdiction," "assuming insurer," and "ceding insurer." These changes are important because they help define the legal framework within which insurers operate, ensuring better regulation and oversight of the reinsurance process in New Mexico. Ultimately, this can enhance financial stability in the insurance market by making it clearer how reinsurance arrangements are managed and credited.
