The amendments to Bill HB 37 introduce the "Community Energy Efficiency Development Block Grant Act," which establishes a program to provide grants aimed at improving energy efficiency in low-income households. This change is significant because it empowers the New Mexico Mortgage Finance Authority to seek federal funding for these programs, helping to reduce energy costs and improve living conditions in underserved communities. Importantly, the revised bill removes provisions for mandating utility reporting on customer disconnections, simplifying the focus on energy efficiency initiatives.
