The recent amendment to Bill HB 928 removed the requirement that hospitals have staff specifically "trained" to conduct forensic examinations of sexual assault victims. Instead, it now only requires that there be a qualified medical professional on duty during each shift who is "able" to perform these examinations. This change is significant because it might broaden the pool of eligible staff, potentially allowing hospitals to respond to sexual assault cases more quickly, although it raises concerns about the quality of care and support victims might receive.
