The recent amendments to Bill SB 439 remove the condition that an athlete agent must have pled guilty or no contest to a crime of moral turpitude for their registration to be impacted. This change broadens the criteria for suspending or revoking an agent’s registration, making it clearer and potentially easier for the Secretary of State to enforce regulations. Additionally, it introduces new provisions such as allowing student athletes to take civil action against agents and expanding the definition of prohibited conduct, which helps enhance protections for student athletes. Overall, these changes aim to strengthen accountability among athlete agents and protect student athletes' rights.
