The recent amendments to HB 548 change how information from investigations by local governing bodies is handled under the Virginia Freedom of Information Act. Specifically, the amendments clarify that completed investigation reports can be shared without revealing the identities of complainants or those providing information. This change is important because it enhances transparency while still protecting the privacy of individuals involved in sensitive investigations, thereby fostering public trust in government accountability.
