The updated bill SB 69 clarifies the identification requirements for prospective firearm purchasers in Virginia, particularly focusing on establishing residency for members of the armed forces. It now explicitly states that military members can use certain documents, such as permanent orders or leave statements, to prove their Virginia residency even if their military ID does not display a Virginia address. This change is significant because it helps ensure that military personnel can more easily purchase firearms while stationed in Virginia, thereby acknowledging their unique situations and service.
