The amendments to SB 5396 clarify that the tax exemption for farmworker housing only applies if the housing meets the current building codes for single-family or multifamily dwellings. Additionally, the bill specifies that this housing must be used for at least five consecutive years after approval for occupancy, or else the full tax amount will be owed with interest. These changes are important because they ensure that farmworker housing adheres to safety standards and remains dedicated to its intended use, helping to protect both workers and communities.
