Plain-language change summary

The recent amendment to Bill AB 480 clarifies that farmland preservation tax credits will not apply to any qualifying acres that have a solar energy system installed, unless that system is considered an accessory use. This change is significant because it aims to encourage efficient use of farmland for agricultural purposes rather than for solar energy installations, preserving the land for farming while still recognizing the growing importance of renewable energy solutions. Additionally, the act will take effect starting from the 2024 tax year, giving stakeholders time to adapt to the new rules.
