Plain-language change summary

The new version of House Bill 1176 modifies how school districts handle damages caused by students. Previously, a student’s grades, diploma, and transcripts could be withheld until the damages were paid, but now only the diploma can be withheld, and grades and transcripts must be released after three years. Additionally, the language has been changed to replace "pupil" with "student" for clarity. These adjustments aim to ensure that students are not disproportionately penalized and to provide them a better chance to move forward in their education.
