Support the Everyday Philanthropist
I'm writing to urge your support of H.R. 6616, the Everyday Philanthropist Act.
Traditionally, our tax code only allows those in the highest income brackets to receive tax benefits for giving back. Congress now has the opportunity to change that by extending those benefits to non-itemizers.
Earlier this year, the Everyday Philanthropist Act was introduced in the House of Representatives by members on both sides of the aisle. This bipartisan effort seeks to implement a Flexible Giving Account (FGA), a pre-tax payroll deduction for employee giving. The creation of an FGA would:
1. Empower everyday, working Americans to give back to the charities of their choice.
2. Increase charitable donations, thereby reducing the dependence on government-funded social programs over time.
3. Allow employers to easily implement workplace giving programs that also reduce their company’s payroll taxes.
The creation of this new benefit is an opportunity for cooperation between Congress, the private sector, and the nonprofit community.
As Congress considers the legislation before it, we urge you to help empower everyday, working Americans to give to the communities and causes they care about. Please consider supporting H.R. 6616, the Everyday Philanthropist Act, and you can help revolutionize the way America gives back.
