Truck drivers support increasing the current minimum insurance limits for commercial motor vehicles
I am a truck driver who supports increasing the current minimum insurance limits for commercial motor vehicles. The current minimum limits have not been changed since the 1980s. An adjustment, accounting for the cost of medical inflation, will make sure that victims of truck crashes have adequate resources to care for themselves and replace lost income without burdening state workers’ compensation, Medicaid, Medicare, Tricare and other assistance agencies that are already overburdened. I also encourage the FMCSA to consider instituting uninsured and underinsured motorist coverage to protect truck drivers who are involved in a catastrophic crash. This additional coverage will protect me and my family if I am killed or sustain injuries that do not allow me to return to my truck driving career.
