Please Support the Sanford-Davis Amendment to H.R. 4 - Protect the Special Rule for Model Aircraft!
I strongly urge you to support the Sanford-Davis Amendment to H.R. 4, the FAA Reauthorization Bill, which preserves the Special Rule for Model Aircraft. This amendment will allow model aircraft hobbyists like myself to continue flying safely within the programming of a community-based organization(CBO), essentially providing an alternative for some hobbyists that is equitable – if not more rigid – than what the FAA offers to those who do not operate within a CBO. Representative DeFazio has also introduced an amendment to H.R. 4, but the DeFazio Amendment places unrealistic burdens on the FAA and airports around the country. The requirements outlined in the DeFazio Amendment would bring an already strained FAA airspace authorization process to a standstill. Currently the wait time for airspace authorization is 2 to 60 days, under the DeFazio Amendment these wait times could become months. As a long-time modeler, I urge you to protect the Special Rule for Model Aircraft by supporting the Sanford-Davis Amendment in H.R. 4, the FAA Reauthorization Bill.
