Oppose CA SB 459!
I stand with Firearms Policy Coalition in strong opposition to SB 459. SB 459 would require the Department to Justice (DOJ) to conduct inspections of dealers at least every 3 years. This bill suggests that the DOJ is incapable of operating its ever-expanding Bureau of Firearms without statutory mandates enacted by the Legislature. Before enacting such a mandate, why not first gather information to evaluate the effectiveness and efficiency of the CA DOJ's various firearms-related programs and operations? This bill does little to increase dealer compliance with firearms law, nor does it provide for better enforcement of the law by an already cash-strapped CA DOJ This would simply result in another also cost and fee increase for consumers, creating yet another undue burden for law abiding gun owners in the State of California. I strongly urge you to vote NO on SB 459.
