Please add the Chilkat River to the Transboundary MOU
Governor Walker, I am writing today to thank you for your past action in protecting our transboundary rivers and to ask you to add the Chilkat River to the 2015 Memorandum of Understanding with British Columbia to have it addressed by the Bilateral Working Group. The Chilkat has historically been left out of this conversation, despite its importance to the local fishing economy for the communities of Haines and Klukwan. The river will be threatened by Constantine Metal's Palmer Project here in Alaska and by trucks carrying ore down from mines in B.C. once the dock in Skagway closes down, forcing trucks to go to Haines. With a new government in B.C., now is the time to take action and improve protections for our critical transboundary waters. Thank you for your continuing dedication to the people of Alaska and protecting this special place.
