Please release Issa Amro and drop all charges against him!
On Thursday, US Congress members Pocan, Carson, Blumenauer, McGovern, Conyers, Beyer, Moore, Lofgren and DeFazio sent a letter to President Mahmoud Abbas asking for the release of human rights defender Issa Amro. The charges against Amro are baseless and violate his right to freedom of speech. In 2010, the UN declared Amro Human Rights Defender of the Year for Palestine. In 2013, the EU designated Amro as a human rights defender. His status was reaffirmed in 2016. Amro has been a guest of the US State Department and mentioned in their reports. Governments around the world, as well as Amnesty International, the UN and more are calling for his release. We ask the Palestinian Authority to immediately release Issa and drop all charges against him. Sincerely,
