Oppose SB 387- Secret Gun Confiscation Orders
I stand with Firearms Policy Coalition in opposition to Senate Bill 387 - Secret Gun Confiscation Orders by Senator Ratti. SB 387 creates secret hearings that could lead to court orders to deprive Nevadans of their Fifth and Second Amendment Civil Rights. SB 387 could ruin reputations, careers and relationships—with no hearing. Being labeled " high risk" , even with zero criminal record, or opportunity to defend oneself. Even worse, it may also put them in harms way by creating conflict. Below is a list of some of the more blatant issues with SB 387; ● SB 387 offers no assessment, counseling, follow-up, intervention or treatment for a victim of a High Risk Protection Order--implying this person is not at all a “High Risk”, ● SB 387 denies the victim of an order the right to confront their accuser, ● SB 387 denies the victim of an order the right to counsel, ● SB 387 denies the victim of an order an evaluation by a professional in the field of the supposed risk, ● SB 387 denies the victim of an order the right to trial by jury, ● SB 387 denies the victim of an order any notification that a hearing is taking place, ● SB 387 victims are threatened with incarceration, rather than professional help, ● Orders are issued in secret--until the subject is told there is something wrong--a surefire way to upset someone the state has determined to be a “high risk”, potentially creating more problems, ● SB 387 allows potentially hundreds of people to request orders and present hearsay evidence ● SB 387 claims “evidence” of risk includes merely the lawful purchase of a firearm Conclusion: SB 387 goes against our values as Nevadans and must be rejected. Please OPPOSE this unconstitutional infringement when it comes up for a vote!
