Join the Bipartisan Congressional Caucus on U.S.-Lebanon Relations

I write today to urge you to join the bipartisan Congressional Caucus on U.S.-Lebanon Relations. Co-chaired by Rep. Darrell Issa and Rep. Gwen Graham, this Caucus is an important affirmation of the important of the U.S.-Lebanon relationship at a critical time.

As I’m sure you know, Lebanon is acutely impacted by the political turmoil and humanitarian disaster that is reshaping the Middle East. Lebanon hosts more Syrian refugees than any other country in the world. In fact, 1 in 3 people in Lebanon are refugees.

It is not hard to imagine the serious impact this has on the Lebanese economy, school system, government services like water, the pre-existing Palestinian refugee camps, and infrastructure.

Lebanon needs are continued strength to both meet the needs of these refugees and ensure that local host communities can adequately deal with the implications that such a surge creates.

While ISIL is threatening to continue their march West, Lebanon stands as a strong rebuke to their model of extremism. The pluralistic religious and ethnic society that Lebanon is based on, has held strong against the refugee influx and the military threat posed by extremists groups externally.

We must stand with Lebanon. I urge you to join the Congressional Caucus on U.S.-Lebanon Relations to affirm your support of our important partner and stand up for the model Lebanon represents to the rest of the region.
