Support SHB1449 to make Washington Safer

I write to you as a constituent to urge you to support HB 1449, to increase prevention of catastrophic oil spills.  I know that you are as concerned as I am about the horrible destruction that is occurring across the country. Let's do what we can to keep it from happening here. While HB 1449 does not protect us from oil spills it puts some preventive measures in place and makes clear that those profiting from oil are responsible for clean up. This bill will:

- Require that we know what is going through our state through posting to the Dept of Ecology's website
- Expand responsibility laws to include rail and expand and tighten requirements about proof of financial responsibility and contingency plans
- Require oil barges to have tug escorts in Puget Sound

As people of faith we know that we exist as a part of a whole that includes all life. We bear responsibility to contribute t0 the health of the whole rather than harm it with our greed. We also recognize our responsibility to those who come after us to leave a bountiful ecosystem. Washington state is a breathtaking state and I know that all of us want to preserve that. I urge your support for HB 1449.
