Support refugees and reject American SAFE Act
Dear Senator, As your constituent, I urge you to reject the American Security against Foreign Enemies (SAFE) Act of 2015 (H.R. 4038), which will close our doors to thousands of Syrian and Iraqi refugees who have suffered enough in the hands of a global crisis terrorizing our communities. Refugees are not our enemies. I am tired of leadership that makes decisions based on fear and not the facts. This legislation will NOT make us safer. The world is witnessing the largest refugee crisis since World War II. This bill will close the door on refugees when they are most in need and fleeing extreme violence and insecurity. It profiles a distinct group based on fear-based rhetoric that disregards the traumatic experiences of individuals who are fleeing the same terror that this country is trying to protect itself against. As you know, the process for accepting refugees into this country is rigorous, taking at least 18-24 months upon administration of refugee status by the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees. Even then, less than 1% of all refugees are granted this status. Individuals who are seeking safety in the “opening and welcoming lands” of America are not terrorists and should not be treated as such. As the “Land of the Free, Home of the Brave,” we need to live up to the values we claim to uphold and extend these same values to all people. We need true leadership at this time of crisis where we join the international community against the common enemy terrorizing our nations. This is the time to unite in solidarity. I urge you to vote against this legislation that would would stop, pause or defund the resettlement of Syrian and Iraqi refugees in the U.S. Sincerely,
This message will be sent to your Senator.
