Safe Staffing Now

Dear Senator:

I am writing to ask for your support for legislation -A750/S1280- that would improve patient safety in NJ hospitals by requiring all hospitals to adopt safe nurse staffing levels for patient care. Numerous studies now prove the direct link between safe nurse staffing levels and patient outcomes – but NJ regulations, which have not been updated in more than 27 years, leave hospitals to self-regulate staffing in many units.

Unsafe staffing levels require nurses to make hard choices about how much time they spend with each patient. We need to strengthen staffing levels so that every patient gets the care they need, when they need it.
