OPPOSE WOMEN’S HEALTH MESSAGE RE INSURANCE COVERAGE FOR ABORTION!
Women’s health and access to comprehensive reproductive health services, including safe, legal abortions, are priority issues for the League of Women Voters. In the upcoming special session of the Texas Legislature, the League will oppose any bills that threaten women’s health by prohibiting health insurance plans from providing coverage for abortion. Such measures, even those that allow private insurance providers to offer coverage through supplemental policies at extra cost, would put an unreasonable and unconstitutional financial burden on most women seeking an abortion. Without insurance coverage for this safe medical procedure, many will be forced to turn to cheap and unsafe methods and providers, endangering their lives.
