Earlier this month, I wrote to you about legislation that would improve insurance access for pregnant women and help them get the prenatal care they need for healthy pregnancies. With only a few days left in the legislative session, we need your help to make sure the Legislature votes to support this vital bill.
Tell your state elected officials to support legislation that would make pregnancy a qualifying event for enrollment in health insurance.
Currently under the Affordable Care Act (ACA), women who have become pregnant cannot sign up for insurance outside of the open enrollment period. Marriage, divorce and childbirth are considered “qualifying events" for enrollment in health insurance, but pregnancy is not. That makes no sense!
Pregnant women need to be able to secure prenatal care for the development of a full-term healthy baby.
Email your elected officials and tell them to support this important bill.
By passing this bill New York will become the first state in the country to allow pregnant women to sign up for insurance when they most need it. This is not only good for the women, this is good for the health of all New York families.
