NO Obamatrade and NO Lame Duck Vote!
President Obama and the U.S. Trade Representative (USTR) fully intend to bring Obamatrade to a vote during a lame duck session of Congress!
The clock is ticking! On August 11, 2016, the office of the USTR began the legislative process of ratifying the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) trade agreement. The draft Statement of Administration Action (SAA) for the TPP trade agreement was sent to Congress.
Beginning thirty days later, the USTR can send a draft implementing bill to Congress – the official piece of legislation that can ratify the TPP -- which is subject to Fast Track in that Congress cannot amend this 5544-page document, and must promptly vote it up or down via a simple majority vote.
