SMITH, REICHMAN, GREEN, JOHNSON, DAWSON, GOODWIN, BROWN, WHITING, KOELKER, COURNOYER, GUTH, GARRETT, COSTELLO, ROZENBOOM, ZAUN, SCHULTZ, SHIPLEY, SWEENEY, EDLER, SINCLAIR, DRISCOLL, KLIMESH, KRAAYENBRINK, LOFGREN, NUNN, and WILLIAMS SENATE JOINT RESOLUTION A Joint Resolution proposing an amendment to the Constitution of the State of Iowa to protect life by declaring that the Constitution of the State of Iowa shall not be construed to recognize, grant, or secure a right to abortion or to require the public funding of abortion.
By striking everything after the resolving clause and inserting:
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF IOWA:

Protection of life.
To defend and protect unborn children, we the people of the State of Iowa declare that this Constitution does not recognize, grant, or secure a right to abortion or require the public funding of abortion.
To defend the dignity of all human life, and to protect mothers and unborn children from efforts to expand abortion even to the day of birth, we the people of the State of Iowa declare that this Constitution shall not be construed to recognize, grant, or secure a right to abortion or to require the public funding of abortion.
The foregoing amendment to the Constitution of the State of Iowa is referred to the general assembly to be chosen at the next general election for members of the general assembly, and shall be published as provided by law for three consecutive months previous to the date of that election.

This joint resolution proposes an amendment to the Constitution of the State of Iowa specifying that to defend the dignity of all human life, and to protect mothers and unborn children from efforts to expand abortion even to the day of birth, we the people of the State of Iowa declare that this Constitution shall not be construed to recognize, grant, or secure a right to abortion or to require the public funding of abortion.
The joint resolution, if adopted, would be referred to the next general assembly for adoption a second time before being submitted to the electorate for ratification.
