WHEREAS, physician anesthesiologists have advanced patient care throughout the history of modern medicine, by shaping what is possible in surgical care, pain management, and critical care;
WHEREAS,physiciananesthesiologistsareresponsibleforpatientsafetybefore,during,and aftersurgery,aswellasinpainmedicinewiththeexpertabilitytoleadandnavigateallvital moments of care;
and WHEREAS, the invention and clinical introduction of anesthesia, in the form of ether, chloroform, nitrous oxide, and later modern agents such as halothane, sevoflurane, propofol, and remifentanil by physician anesthesiologists has made painless surgery possible and is often cited as the most important medical advance in history;
and WHEREAS, with 12 to 14 years of education, including medical school, and 12,000 to 16,000 hours of training, physician anesthesiologists possess the necessary knowledge to understand and treat the entire human body;
and WHEREAS, the innovation and advancement of airway management and intubation techniques and devices by physician anesthesiologists ensures every breath a patient takes during surgery is protected;
and WHEREAS,physiciananesthesiologistsaremadeforthismoment,playingacriticalrolein keepingpatientssafeinthisstateandcommunity,whethermanagingacrisisduringsurgery, providing pain management during labor, or treating patients with chronic pain;
and WHEREAS, the innovation of the Apgar Score, a test created by anesthesiologist Dr.
and WHEREAS,theAnesthesiaCareTeammodel,ledbyphysiciananesthesiologists,iswidely recognized as the gold standard of care used in all the nation's top hospitals to protect patients;

and WHEREAS, physician anesthesiologists’ innovation of patient safety science and safety monitoring, including pulse oximetry, has changed how patients’ heart and lung function and blood oxygenation levels are monitored in the operating room and standards on basic anesthetic monitoring have heralded the largest sustained reduction in perioperative mortality of any specialty;

and WHEREAS, the innovation of regional anesthesia, such as nerve blocks, spinal anesthesia and epidurals, by physician anesthesiologists has transformed pain management options, thus helping to reduce opioid use and combat the opioid epidemic;
and WHEREAS, it is abundantly fitting and proper that the dedicated work of these healthcare providers be appropriately recognized.

NOW,THEREFORE,BEITRESOLVEDBYTHESENATEthatthemembersofthisbody recognize January 25-31, 2026, as Physician Anesthesiologists Week in Georgia and commendallphysiciananesthesiologistsfortheirdedicationtothe health and well-being of the citizens of the State of Georgia.
NOW, THEREFORE, Be it resolved by the Senate of the General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Kentucky:
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed tomakeappropriatecopiesofthisresolutionavailablefordistributiontotheGeorgiaSociety of Anesthesiologists, the public, and the press.
