113 Offered by Senators Hauck, Cavanagh, Chang, Geiss, Moss and Polehanki offeredA RESOLUTION TO DESIGNATE MAY 2026 AS AMYOTROPHIC LATERAL SCLEROSIS (ALS) MONTH WHEREAS, Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS), known by many as Lou Gehrig’s disease, is a progressive, fatal neurodegenerative disease that attacks nerve cells in the followingbrain resolution:and spinal cord;

Whereas,and AmyotrophicWHEREAS, LateralApproximately Sclerosis30,000 (ALS),individuals knownin bythe manyUnited asStates Louare Gehrig’safflicted disease,with isALS aat progressive,any fatalgiven neurodegenerativetime, diseasewith that5,000 attacksnew nervecases cellsappearing inannually; the brain and spinal cord;

and Whereas,WHEREAS, Approximately 15 new cases of ALS makesare evendiagnosed theevery simplestday, movementswith includinga walking,person speaking,losing andtheir gesturingbattle nearlywith impossible;the disease every 90 minutes;

and Whereas,WHEREAS, Approximately 30,000 individuals in the United States are afflicted with ALS atstrikes anypeople givenregardless time,of withrace, 5,000sex, newage, casesor appearingethnicity; annually;

and Whereas,WHEREAS, ApproximatelyFinding 15the newcauses casesand ofcure for ALS arewill diagnosedprevent everythe day,disease withfrom arobbing personhundreds losingof theirthousands battleof withAmericans theof diseasetheir everydignity 90and minutes;lives;
