and Whereas,WHEREAS, SinceJune 1968,2, more2025, individualswill havemark diedthe from28th gunsbirthday inof theHadiya UnitedPendleton, Statesa thanteenager havewho diedmarched in thePresident battlefieldsObama’s ofsecond allinaugural theparade warsand inwas Unitedtragically States'shot history;and killed just three weeks later;

and Whereas,WHEREAS, InFollowing 2025,Hadiya’s overdeath, 15,000her Americansfriends haveand alreadyclassmates lostorganized theirthe lives“Wear toOrange” gunmovement violence,to includinghonor nearlyher 100life childrenand underall Gunthose Violence_SR54_AA_1whose nvm059lives 1have thebeen ageimpacted ofby 11;gun violence.

and Whereas, June 2, 2025, will mark the 28th birthday of Hadiya Pendleton, a teenager who marched in President Obama’s second inaugural parade and was tragically shot and killed just three weeks later;

and Whereas, Following Hadiya’s death, her friends and classmates organized the “Wear Orange” movement to honor her life and all those whose lives have been impacted by gun violence.

and Whereas,WHEREAS,By By wearing orange and commemorating National GunGunViolenceAwareness Violence Awareness Month, Americans will raise awareness about gun violence and honor the lives and lost human potential of Americans stolen by gun violence;

now, therefore, be it ResolvedRESOLVED byBY theTHE Senate,SENATE, That the members of this legislative body commemorate June 2025 as Gun Violence Awareness Month;

and be it further Resolved,RESOLVED, That we encourage all citizens to support their communities’ efforts to prevent the tragic effects of gun violence and to honor and value human life.
