Aand resolutionWHEREAS, The Constitution of Michigan states that “Religion, morality and knowledge being necessary to recognizegood Januarygovernment 26-Februaryand 1,the 2025,happiness asof Catholicmankind, Schoolsschools Week.and the means of education shall forever be encouraged”;

Whereas,and ThereWHEREAS, areCatholic 51,497school studentsparents attendingpay 214tuition Catholicin elementaryaddition andto highsupporting schoolstheir throughoutlocal ourpublic greatschools state;through their taxes;

and Whereas,WHEREAS, TheCatholic Constitutionschools ofcomply Michiganwith statesthe thatsame “Religion,health, moralitysafety, and knowledgegeneral beingwelfare necessaryregulations torequired good government and the happiness of mankind,public schoolsschools; and the means of education shall forever be encouraged”;

and Whereas,WHEREAS,Taking Catholicinto schoolaccount parentsMichigan’s payminimum tuitionpublic inschool additionfoundation toallowance supportingof their$9,608 localper publicpupil, Catholic schools throughwill theirsave taxes;taxpayers more than $494 million in state spending during the current school year;

and Whereas,WHEREAS, Catholic schools complyinstill witha broad, values-based education, emphasizing the samelifelong health,development safety,of moral, intellectual, and generalsocial welfarevalues regulationsin requiredyoung people, making them responsible citizens of publicour schools;state and nation;

and WHEREAS, Catholic Schoolsschools Weekeducate 25_SR4_AA_1many abp741students 1who Whereas,are Takingnon-Catholic, intomany accountstudents Michigan'swho minimumare publiceconomically schooldisadvantaged, foundationand allowanceexemplifies ofthat $9,608a pergood pupil,education Catholicremains schoolsthe willsingle savebest taxpayersway moreout thanof $494poverty; million in state spending during the current school year;

and Whereas, With their traditionally high academic standards, high graduation rates, and commitment to community service, Catholic schools and their graduates make a positive contribution to society;

and Whereas, January 26-February 1, 2025, has been designated as Catholic Schools Week, with the theme “Catholic Schools:

and Whereas,WHEREAS, The common good of the state of Michigan is strengthened through the continued existence of Catholic schools;

and WhereasWHEREAS Catholic schools are committed to community service, producing graduates who hold “helping others” among their core values;

and Whereas,WHEREAS, A supportive partnership is created with each student’s family, encouraging the involvement of parents in the Catholic Schools Week 25_SR4_AA_1 abp741 1 education of their children, so that Catholic students form productive lives which benefit future generations;

now, therefore, be it ResolvedRESOLVED byBY theTHE Senate,SENATE, That the members of this legislative body recognize JanuaryJanuary 26-February 1, 2025, 26-February 1, 2025, as Catholic Schools Week.

and be it further Resolved,RESOLVED, That a copy of this resolution be transmitted to the Michigan Catholic Conference with our highest esteem.
