andN Agreed to by the Senate, January 13, 2022 R Agreed to by the House of Delegates, January 17, 2022 O WHEREAS, George Millard Harvey, Sr., a respected business owner who made many generous L conWHEREAS, born in West Virginia, George Harvey moved to Virginia at a young age and grew up UL in Montgomery County, where he attended Auburn High School in Riner, walking several miles to CE school every morning after waking up early to milk the cows on his family's farm;

and deployedWHEREAS, after graduating in 1945, George Harvey joined the United States Army Air Corps and D West Point, he returned to Fairbanks,Southwest Alaska;Virginia and enrolled at the National Business College inemy at Roanoke;

despiteand qualifyingWHEREAS, toGeorge applyHarvey forbegan his career as the Unitedoperator Statesof Militarya Academyservice atstation, Westthen Point,managed hea returnedTexaco todistributor, Southwestand Virginiasubsequently embarked upon a long and enrolledsuccessful atenterprise as an automobile deaWHEREAS, George Harvey became the Nationalco-owner Businessof Collegea General Motors Chevrolet dealership in DS Roanoke;Christiansburg in 1957 and purchased an Oldsmobile dealership the following year;

andhe WHEREAS,expanded Georgeto Harvey2 beganRadford hisby careerpurchasing as the operator of a serviceChevrolet-Oldsmobile-Cadillac station,dealership thenin managed1959 a Texaco distributor, and subsequentlyadded embarked upon a longPontiac-Buick andR successfuldealership enterpriseto ashis anfranchises automobilein dealer;1989;

and WHEREAS,Virginia residents, George Harvey becamesupported thehis co-owneremployees ofthrough agenerous Generalretirement Motorsandwest Chevroletprofit-sharing dealershipplans inand Christiansburgwas ina 1957trusted andmentor purchasedwho anrewarded Oldsmobileexcellence dealershipand thehelped followingothers year;achieve their fullest potential;

and WHEREAS, George Harvey was a member of the Virginia Automobile Dealers Association, the New he expandedreceived toa dealership1989 toTime Magazine Quality Dealer Award for his franchisescommitment to excellence in 1989;hision;

andile-Cadillacprofession; dealership in 1959 and added a Pontiac-Buick WHEREAS, in addition to providing outstanding customer service to generations of Southwest 2 Virginia residents, George Harvey supported his employees through generous retirement and profit-sharing plans and was a trusted mentor who rewarded excellence and helped others achieve their fullest potential;

and WHEREAS, George Harvey wasfurther served his fellow residents as a memberreal ofestate developer, overseeing the Virginiacreation Automobileof Dealersseveral Association,subdivisions, theapartment Newcomplexes, Riverand Dealersother Association,projects to help the Radfordcommunity ChambergroWHEREAS, ofGeorge Commerce,Harvey also offered his leadership and theexpertise Retailto Southwest Virginia Health Services, Radford Community Hospital, and First & Merchants Association;National Bank, among many other organizations;

he receivedinspired acountless 1989young Timemen Magazineand Qualitywomen Dealeras Awardthe forchair hisof commitmentthe toBusiness excellenceand inEconomics hisDepartment proWHEREAS,at GeorgeRadford HarveyUniversity furtherand servedwas hisinstrumental fellowin residents as a real estate developer, overseeing the creationestablishment of several subdivisions, apartment complexes, and other projects to help the communityinstitution's grow;business school;

and WHEREAS, George Harvey also offered his leadership and expertise to Southwest Virginia Health 35 Services, Radford Community Hospital, and First & Merchants National Bank, among many other 36 organizations;

he inspired countless young men and women as the chair of the Business and Economics 37 Department at Radford University and was instrumental in the establishment of the institution's business 38 school;

now, therefore, be it RESOLVED by the Senate, the House of Delegates concurring, That the General Assembly hereby note with great sadness the loss of George Millard Harvey, Sr., a highly admired entrepreneur and community leader in Radford;

and, be it RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for respectpresentation forto histhe memory.ilyfamily of George Millard Harvey, Sr., as an expression of the General Assembly's 50respect for his memory.
