Hello, my name is (your name) and I am contacting (Representative's name) to ask that he/she take needed action to help get an important bill, H.R. 3730, passed before year-end. This bill will help Medicare beneficiaries with disabilities get needed access to key components (a/k/a accessories) they need for their Complex Manual Wheelchairs. Lack of appropriate access to this type of equipment increases the chance for medical complications, injuries, pressure wounds, and hospital stays for individuals with diagnoses such as spinal cord injury, traumatic brain Injury, cerebral palsy, and multiple sclerosis. While CMS fixed this problem for complex power wheelchairs last year, it will not make a change for complex manual wheelchairs without legislation. That is why H.R. 3730 is needed. I believe that all individuals should have equal access to components of the Complex Rehab Wheelchair systems they require to protect their health and maximize their independence. H.R. 3730 already has broad bipartisan support from over 119 cosponsors and over 50 national disability and clinician organizations are asking for passage this year. As a constituent, I'm asking the Representative to contact the Chairman or Ranking Member on both the Ways & Means and Energy & Commerce Committees to ask that H.R. 3730 be passed before year-end. Do you think the Representative would be willing to speak with leadership of these two Committees to get H.R. 3730 passed to support reduced healthcare costs and maximize the independence of individuals with disabilities?
